If you had asked me how I would be spending my first few days in Liberia, I most certainly would not have said "at the beach." But one of the first restaurants we tried here was a great little place with seating right on the sand, and today a group of us spent the afternoon at a place called Sajj Beach. While a different experience than going to the ocean in the U.S. -- it's not advisable to walk too far away from your group, the people who run the beach bring you chairs to sit on and umbrellas to keep you cool -- it was just as relaxing. The water was really warm, the waves incredibly strong, and the heat pretty much wore us out by the end of the day. I wore 45 sunblock and still got some color.
On our drive back from the beach, I tried to pay close attention to the t-shirts and clothes people were wearing. The night before I'd listened in on a conversation about how certain articles of clothing are donated to Africans, and was curious to see what sorts of things ended up here. I saw a man wearing a New York Sports Club hat (made me feel right at home), and a child wearing an Amagansett or Nantucket or some place like that t-shirt. My FAVORITE was a guy wearing a "Vote for Pedro" tee. He gets the prize.
I'm going to try to take more pictures and post them, but in some places here it's not a good idea to just snap away, so we'll see what I can do. I filmed a little video of our apt here, but it takes forever to attach to the blog. Hoping to share it -- and more stories -- soon.

ps. i really liked how you worked in the martha stewart jab. im anxious to see how youre going to work in taking down dr phil soon...
What a coincidence! Paul and I took a drive to the beach today (the Cape) to see what was going on down there. Although, sounds like your "volunteer" work is tough if they bring the drinks to you. On another note, in case anyone at work asks, Chelsea C. was in the Wootown this week:

Tell me when you spot an Eagles Mere t-shirt!
Courtney beat me to exactly what Iwas going to say. If you do see an EM t-shirt, we will know that globalization is complete.
