Working it out

So today was finally the day that I started exercising again! I had hoped I could run outside in Liberia, but the crazy driving, lack of paved roads, and extreme heat have convinced me otherwise. Luckily I learned about a small gym in the UN World Food Program complex, which isn't very far from my apartment. Turns out that the brother of our office's Logistics Coordinator works there, which meant that I could send payment this afternoon and actually use the gym tonight. I am not really a girl who loves the treadmill, but just being able to move again was nice. Plus, I felt like I was establishing a familiar routine, and that helps in a foreign experience like this one. At one point, as I was jogging along to the music on my iPod, I realized that just a couple of weeks ago I was doing this in the U.S. and now I'm using a treadmill at a UN compound in Liberia. Strange.

Other than this, no big news to report for today. Maybe that means I'm settling in here??

Hi Alexis, Right now the treadmill and I are not friends because about 3 weeks ago in the spirit of being healthy I sprained my knee...Ouch. I put the incline up two notches and it was too much of a strain for these old knees. Luckily you are in much better shape. Here's to that great feeling that some people (not I) get from keeping their body in active shape. Love Cathy Shannon

The fact that you're able to fit in a workout in Liberia somehow makes the fact that I'm spending tonight sitting like a bump on a log seem even worse! You continue to be an inspiration from afar! I may have to pop in the TaiBo DVDs...

So no further Hash House Harriers runs? Or I guess that's more of a weekend thing than an every-night thing.
